Dr. Ali A. Danesh Named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology

We are proud to share that Dr. Ali A. Danesh, PhD, has been named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. The designation was awarded through the Academy's James F. Jerger Program of Distinction and is considered one of the highest honors in the profession. The news was reported by The Hearing Review in September 2026.

For patients at Labyrinth Audiology, this recognition confirms something our community has known for years: the care you receive here is grounded in research and teaching at the highest level of the field.

What the Distinguished Fellow Designation Recognizes

The James F. Jerger Program of Distinction honors audiologists whose sustained work has shaped the profession. In Dr. Danesh's case, the award recognizes nearly three decades of contributions across three areas at once: original research, the education of the next generation of clinicians, and clinical leadership in the care of patients with complex hearing and balance conditions.

That combination is unusual. Many clinicians build a strong practice, and many academics build a strong publication record. Dr. Danesh has done both simultaneously for more than 25 years, and patients in Boca Raton have benefited from it directly.

A Career Built at the Bench and the Chairside

Dr. Danesh earned his doctorate in audiology with an emphasis in auditory electrophysiology from the University of Memphis in 1998. He is a board-certified clinical audiologist and has served on the faculty of Florida Atlantic University for more than 28 years, where he is a professor of communication sciences and disorders in the College of Education, with a secondary professorship in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine.

At FAU he directs the Tinnitus and Balance Research Laboratory, an interdisciplinary training ground for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and medical students. Much of what is learned in that laboratory travels a short distance to the treatment room at Labyrinth Audiology.

The Research Behind the Recognition

Dr. Danesh's published work spans a wide range of the auditory and vestibular sciences, including:

• Auditory electrophysiology and objective measures of hearing
• Tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia — the sound sensitivity disorders that are often dismissed elsewhere
• Vestibular assessment and the relationship between balance disorders and cognitive function
• Auditory profiles in autism spectrum disorder
• Telehealth delivery of audiologic care and computational analysis of nystagmus
• The effects of diabetes on memory and hearing, and auditory findings in Parkinson's disease

He has presented more than 100 scientific papers at state, national, and international meetings and has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in recent years.

What This Means for Our Patients
